Recruitment

The Tifton Police Department is always accepting applications for all positions, but may not have a position open at the time of application. Your application will be kept on file for six months for consideration if a position becomes available.

Police Officer Duties & Responsibilities

 A police officer performs a wide range of tasks to promote public safety and security.  This includes crime prevention, general enforcement of the law and related work as required.  The duties of a police officer include, but are not limited to: patrolling, crime detection, investigation, and traffic enforcement.

 Applicants must meet the following requirement

  1. Georgia Post Certified Police Officer or capable of 

being certified.

  1. Be at least 21 years of age
  2. Must be a citizen of the United States
  3. High school graduate or equivalent
  4. Successfully pass a Physical and Drug Screen.
  5. Successfully pass a polygraph examination.
  6. Successfully pass the Reid Aptitude Test.
  7. Pass an extensive background check.
  8. No Felony conviction or Criminal Record that shows

   a disregard for the law.  Veterans must have an

   honorable Discharge.  Possess good moral character.

  1. Be free from all apparent mental disorders

  2. Must be able to qualify with departmental firearm. (Glock 40 Cal.)

 City of Tifton Police Department Benefits and Programs.

 The descriptions of the benefits listed below are not described in absolute detail; some restrictions to the benefits may apply. For complete and detailed information contact the Human Resource Office at City Hall.

 1.          Probationary Raise of 3% after successfully completion of 6-        month probation period.

2.            Longevity Pay Raise after 2, 3 and 8 year Anniversary

3.            Equipment Issued:  Uniforms – Weapons – Body Armor

4.            Incentive Pay – For Bachelor or Associate Degrees,   Advanced and Intermediate Certification.

5.            Retirement Plan – Health Care Plan – Life Insurance

6.            P.O.A.B.F. Dues Paid By Department

7.            Educational Incentives - College Tuition Reimbursements up to 100%.

8.            Annual Leave 80 Hours per year, Holidays on Average Equal  64 Hours Per Year (Qualify for holidays immediately)
