Commendations and Complaints

Community feedback, either good or bad is of great importance to the operation of a professionally operated Police Department. All complaints and commendations will be taken seriously. We use this information to help measure our overall performance and improvements where necessary. Questions and comments can be mailed directly to:

Commendations
The Tifton Police Department is committed to rewarding its members for commendable performance. The Department recognizes its members who receive Citizens praise for their performance with doing a good job of going out of the way to help. There commendation will be placed in the employees personnel file. If you wish to commend a member of the Tifton Police Department for doing a good job, we would prefer you to write a letter or email the Chief of Police. This will insure that correct documentation for the outstanding job goes into the Officers personnel file.

Complaints
Citizens having a complaint about any member of the Tifton Police Department are encouraged to first contact the member’s supervisor. Most complaints can be resolved by the Supervisor who determines the appropriate action to be taken after investigating the complaint. If the complaint is of a more serious nature, the Supervisor will take an initial statement and complete a Departmental Complaint Form. It will then be forwarded to Departments Internal Investigator for a formal investigation.

Walk in complaints will be accepted, but Citizens are encouraged to call 229-382-3132 and make an appointment with the Supervisor or Internal Investigator.

Citizens are encouraged to make complaints for inappropriate behavior or misconduct by members of the Tifton Police Department; however, complaints must be made in good faith. Complaints will be received in a professional manner and you will be expected to conduct yourself the same way. All formal complaints must be sworn to under the penalties of perjury.
