Judge Herbert Benson
Since January 1, 1992, Herbert Benson has served as the Municipal
Court Judge for the City of Tifton. A well-respected attorney and the
head of a small law firm in Tifton, Benson is known for his fairness and
honesty and has served in the capacity of city court judge on several
occasions in the past in other jurisdictions. Prior to taking the
judge's job in Tifton, Benson had served as judge in Adel and Omega,
Georgia. He is currently serving as Judge for the City of Ashburn and
TyTy. Since June of 1991 he has found the time to pursue the private
interests of his firm and serves the public as well. Herbert W. Benson
began his college education at the Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College
in Tifton, Georgia in 1974. He graduated two years later with a degree
in journalism. He continued to the University of Georgia at Athens where
he earned a degree in ABJ Journalism and Public Relations. He was a
member of the Golden Key Honor Society and graduated Cum Laude in 1978.
By 1982, Benson career choices changed somewhat when he began pursuing a
degree in law at Georgia State University College of Law. By 1986, after
balancing his studies and a full time job as a law clerk, he graduated
from college and immediately passed the State Bar of Georgia. After
serving an internship with the Rockdale County District Attorneys
Office, Judge Benson gained experience and knowledge in matters
concerning both civil and criminal law by working as an associate of
several attorneys in Atlanta and Tifton. By 1990 he was on his own in
private practice. In 1997 he, along with two partners, started the firm
of Benson, Phillips and Hoffman.
Judge Benson is married and has two children.

To Dispose of a Traffic Citation
To determine exact amount of the fine, call the
Municipal Court Clerk at 229-391-3967 or 229-391-3880.
Fines may be paid at City Hall, 130 First Street, Monday through
Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- If you pay your fine in person, you must
wait two (2) days after citation is issued.
- If you elect to pay your fine before a court date, it must
be paid by 11:00 a.m. on Court Date which appears at the bottom of
your citation.
- If you want a hearing, you
must appear in Court. If not paid by this time, you must attend court.
Personal Checks will not be accepted. Send money Order or Cashier's
Check. You must have exact amount of money.

If you fail to pay the fine prior to court
date or appear in Court:
Your driver's license will be suspended and a warrant will be issued for
your arrest and an additional fine imposed for contempt of court.
